Make your opinion count

WLBC request feedback to the plan using tick box forms which restrict you to only answering the questions that they deem appropriate and avoid relevant questions like:

Do you agree with scrapping Option 3 (Ormskirk)?
Do you want Greenbelt to be developed rather than Brownfield sites?
Do you want to more traffic, sewage and flooding problems?
Do you want Burscough to disappear in a sprawl of development?

If your answer is ‘NO’ to any of these then write and let WLBC know you can email localplan@westlancs.gov.uk or mail to the address below.

Making comment

All comments should be based on fact and it is important to understand precisely what is being proposed and the potential impact this may have.

When a decision is made on a planning application, only certain issues can be taken into account. These issues are often referred to as ‘material considerations’. For example, a common objection which is not a material consideration, and so would not be taken into account, is devaluation of property. However, the reasons why a property may be devalued by a proposed development, e.g. overshadowing, loss of privacy, noise and disturbance etc are material considerations and would be considered. All comments must be submitted in writing, either by hand or electronically. Verbal comments are not accepted.

It is important to be precise and to the point when commenting. It can be tempting to cover a variety of matters, but including irrelevant or factually questionable points may mean that the relevant issues are lost.

We have prepared a letter which outlines some of the key objections, if you agree with them please add the date, your name, address and signature and post it to arrive before 17 February 2012 to:
Planning Policy Team, West Lancashire Borough Council,
PO Box 16, 52 Derby Street,
Ormskirk, L39 2DF.

Last Summer WLBC presented us with 3 options as part of their core strategy consultation, options 1 and 2 involved heavy development of Burscough (the Local Plan is based on these) and option 3 involved development in Ormskirk. Despite option 1 having the most objections and option 3 being the most sensible, option 1 was chosen along with elements of option 2 to form the Local Plan. Gill Bjork organised a petition which objected to options 1 and 2 and submitted 1347 signatures to WLBC, she was told to collect 153 more and the matter could be debated. Please contact Gill to sign the petition or download a copy and gather your own and let Gill know before Feb 17th.
